Tyranny in Canada

By Ian Jobling •  1/22/08

Recently in Canada, Muslims have managed to sic human rights organizations on infidels who dared to criticize the one true faith. Two years ago, the Canadian magazine The Western Standard dared to publish the Danish Muhammad cartoons that caused such controversy. Now, after a complaint by the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, the Alberta Human Rights Commission has agreed to investigate the incident, and the editor of the magazine, Ezra Levant, could be fined thousands of dollars if he is found to have violated Muslims’ rights.

As might be expected, the complainants don’t care much about human rights themselves. As Levant writes:

One of the complainants against me is someone I would describe as a radical Muslim imam, Syed Soharwardy. He grew up in the madrassas of Pakistan and he lectures on the Saudi circuit. He advocates sharia law for all countries, including Canada. His website is rife with Islamic supremacism—offensive to many Canadian Jews, gentiles, women and gays. But his sensitivities—his Saudi-Pakistani values—have been offended by me.

Levant tells a human rights goon what he thinks of her in this video.

In another case, the Canadian Islamic Congress has convinced the federal, British Columbia, and Ontario human rights commissions to investigate MacLean’s magazine for publishing the work of Mark Steyn, a critic of Islam. A recent article sums up the case:

Last October, Maclean’s published an excerpt from Steyn’s new book, America Alone. In that work, Steyn argues demographics foretells the collapse of the West and rise of Islam. Below-replacement birth rates in many Western countries, including Canada, says Steyn, and high fertility rates among Muslims, increases the danger Islamic fundamentalism will overpower Western countries in future.

Now, you’re free to agree or disagree with Steyn, but no one is saying—and certainly no law enforcement agency has indicated it thinks—that there is anything illegal about Steyn’s book. There’s nothing libellous about it, it isn’t hate speech and it breaks no other Criminal Code restrictions. Yes, it’s controversial and much debated, but again, isn’t that the point? …

The implications are enormous. Based on the actions of human rights commissions in this country, anyone who feels slighted by what they read or hear is free to go to one of these august bodies and complain. The threshold is not whether any law was broken—such complaints would never make it inside a real courtroom—but whether the complainant’s “right” not to be offended—by, to be sure, sometimes edgy material—was transgressed.

What will Canadians do when they find out that Muslims are offended by everyone who isn’t a Muslim?

Islamofascist-Dhimmi Axis Assault on Free Speech

Muslims Against Sharia are proud to be the first Muslim group to publicly support Ezra Levant and denounce HRC inquisition.

Proceedings against Ezra Levant are nothing short of ridiculous. HRC legitimizes radicals’ claims that Islam cannot be criticized and Freedom of Speech only applies to radical Muslims.

But Ezra Levant is not alone. The latest casualties of Islamofascist-Dhimmi Axis Assault on Free Speech include Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld, Fouad al-Farhan, Joe Kaufman, Paul Ray, Michael Savage, Mark Steyn, TomaShot, Andrew Whitehead, and many others. What is the policy here regarding white-european muslims? I assume Ibrahim Hooper is right out, but how about in general?

Nice to see you around, fighting the good fight, MAS. If only the Canadian “human rights” folks had as much respect for freedom!
