Italy’s Turn to the Right

Gianni Alemanno
Gianni Alemanno, the new Mayor of Rome.

After its last round of elections last month, Italy has seen a surge in right-wing sentiment. The nationalist, anti-immigrant party the Northern League, a member of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s ruling coalition, did extremely well in the elections and has been rewarded with four ministerial posts. The National Alliance party, which is descended from the Mussolini regime, is thriving as well. Its leader, Gianfranco Fini, was recently elected to President of the Chamber of Deputies, one of Italy’s houses of parliament.

The Northern League is shockingly radical in its anti-immigration message, as my recent post on one of their campaign posters proves. In the past, the party has suggested that the navy open fire on rafts of illegal immigrants in the Mediterranean. Roberto Calderoli, who has been given a cabinet post in the new administration, is particularly colorful: he had to resign from the cabinet of the previous Berlusconi administration for wearing a Mohammed cartoon t-shirt. He once dismissed the French soccer team as a pack of “negroes, communists, and Muslims.” He also appears at the opening of mosques and threatens “pig day” protests to defile them. He even once walked his own pet pig over a mosque site.

The new nationalist spirit was recently manifested in the northern Italian city of Verona. The city bulldozed a mosque and plans to replace it with a public square named after Oriana Fallaci, a bitter critic of Islam. A more aggressive repudiation of Islam could scarcely be imagined.

Berlusconi and his allies made cracking down on illegal immigration a major plank in their campaign platforms, and they are already putting their promises into effect. About 400 illegals have been rounded up across the country already. Yesterday, the government presented plans to make illegal immigration a crime punishable by a prison sentence. There has also been talk of implementing border controls, which would contradict the EU policy of open borders.

The concern about immigrants is perfectly justified. Foreigners make up 35 percent of those arrested for crimes in Italy, but only six percent of the population.

The current crop of Italian politicians are particularly vociferous about the 130,000 gypsy, or Roma, immigrants in Italy, who are particularly prone to crime. During his campaign, the newly elected mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, another member of the National Alliance party, pledged that his first move would be to demolish 85 gypsy camps.

Anger over gypsies has been exacerbated by two recent incidents in which gypsies were accused of stealing Italian babies. One of the incidents took place in Naples, where an angry mob set fire to a gypsy camp.

The brief rule of Alemanno has been marked by cultural nationalism as well as anti-immigrant sentiment. Arrested in 1989 for trying to block the motorcade of President George H. W. Bush, Alemanno appears to be intensely anti-American. He has banned American actors from attending the Rome film festival in an effort to revive Italian cinema. He is also campaigning to have a museum designed by an American architect torn down on the grounds that its modernist style is “invasive” in the context of the Baroque buildings around it.

So, these are heady times in Italy, and all race realists should pay close attention to developments there.

Go Italy! I am not Italian, but I hope Italy saves itself. I just really hope it stays nationalist; I am very afraid it may turn back to suicide. Italy needs to increase momentum, leave the European Union, and repatriate (deport) non-Whites (especially muslims). After that, it needs to stay alert, until the current racial (and religious) invasion is over.

That some people feel grievances over some romani stealing should be a secondary problem to people burning whole romani camps. The problem is not centered on the Roma, and is actually not endemic to Roma groups but to ALL groups who are viewed as gypsies. Romani are also widely discriminated against by whites and have very limited opportunities to switch lifestyle (if they wanted to). Their grievances’ are justified by racism, and are the byproducts of racism. Racism and animosity toward what is regarded as ‘gypsies’ is widespread in Europe, whether this is caused by gypsies being thieves is an open question, and not a very interesting one. What is interesting is the widespread hate towards ‘gypsies’, which is amply demonstrated by this entry.

In response to Anti-Racist Action: Merely for clarification, the Gypsies are accused of more than ordinary “stealing.” They are believed to be stealing actual babies, not candy bars. I don’t know if you know and/or meant to include this fact, but it should be noted, for clarification.

Anti-Racist Action has never had any personal experience with “gypsies” or “travellers”, obviously.

Wow! I am filled with a sense of pride and am greatly encouraged by the new developments in Italy! If this keeps up I will have to start wearing shirts with the Italian flag, ( or at least a shirt with spagetti stains)!

I might consider moving to Italy if this keeps going on,… but I’m sure I would be despised as an American. This spite of Americans will increasingly be for for the fact that our nation has done so much to encourage miscogenation, both within and without America’s borders.

In the first place you wrongly claim that in verona a mosque was buldozed. It was not a mosque as you say, most probably it was just a building scheduled for demolition a long ago. Noone here strives for tearing churches and the likes down.

Secondly there is a understable concern for immigration. But unlike you state it’s not immigtant’s concern. It’s OURS. As you write criminals amongst immigrants are 35% while only 6% of the population is made by them. This percentage skyrockets if you take out of the picture foreigners belongin to the EU, in particolar those from the muslins countries make up to 60% of the convicted population.

Gypsies have been long beneficiaries of state grants and assistance for favouring their integration into the mainstream society. The results of these grants are under the eyes and appreciation of every single taxpayer. We have been granting welfare for at least 3 generations of thieves. No integration has ever being going on.

To sum it up: You better think twice before writing such nonsense. Take note: It’s because of lefties with this attitude, ideas and total lack of grasp on reality that made people vote right.

Enrico,

You completely misunderstand the meaning of my article. I am not objecting to the policies of Lega Nord and National Alliance—I’m completely in favor of them. I strongly support removing Gypsies from the country. I strongly support bulldozing mosques. I’m a huge fan of the LN. I want to create something like it in the US. That’s why I run this website.

The information about the bulldozing of the mosque came from the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. Here’s a link to the story. I got my translation from Gates of Vienna—there’s a link in the article itself. It all happened just as I said it did.

I’m glad that at least in Italy there is a sense of preservation and a resolve to fight back. I’m also thrilled that Italian politicians at all level of government are openly siding with the people. I expect more to come and to spread like a wild fire throughout the entire Europe and to all the White Nations. Non-Whites do not belong with us.
