What is Diversity Snobbery?

Conservative pundits are justifiably indignant about media bias in the current election. Victor Davis Hanson catalogs the numerous failures to take Obama to task over his questionable associations, his inconsistent positions on the issues, and his unwise redistributionist fiscal proposals. Meanwhile, the media have cast McCain and Palin as racist, authoritarian demagogues, despite the fact that they have shunned controversial positions on race, suppressed valid criticisms of non-whites among their followers, and betrayed the Republican base by supporting a “path to citizenship” for illegal aliens. As Hanson says, Sarah Palin “in the space of two months, has been reduced from a popular successful governor to a backwoods creationist, who will ban books and champion white secessionist causes.”
The bias Hanson complains of is a product of the fundamental misconception of American society that I discussed in The Myth of the Fascist Establishment. We are a society that is not only tolerant of minorities, but recklessly indulgent. America lets millions of immigrants into the country every year and allows them to change the complexion and culture of our nation. Once they are here, we give them affirmative action and put criticism of them, no matter how justified, under a severe taboo. However, mainstream political commentators do not deplore our nation’s indulgences towards non-whites and its disregard for the interests of American natives, but rather its xenophobia and racism. Even as white Americans allow themselves to be dispossessed with nary a grumble, they find themselves pilloried as intolerant, bigoted, and even proto-fascist.
What is the source of this grotesque scapegoating? Why does the media and academic establishment insist on blaming the victim? Many writings on White America clarify the question. The myth of the fascist establishment is clearly a manifestation of leukophobia, or fear and loathing of white people, which casts whites as uniquely racist and authoritarian. Moreover, the myth is rooted in the hostility towards white ethnocentrism and infatuation with diversity that characterizes American elite ideology, particularly that of the so-called “creative class.”
Though social attitudes always have many causes, I think the major reason for the myth of the fascist establishment is simple snobbery. For the elite, friendliness to diversity is the hallmark of tolerance, open-mindedness, courage, and intelligence. Consequently, not only do the elites boast of their own courageous embrace of diversity, but fabricate a fictional fascist white majority as a foil for their own superior tolerance. To this combination of boastfulness and scapegoating, I give the name “diversity snobbery.”
One sees diversity snobbery at work everywhere in the coverage of this election. Certainly, boastfulness is not hard to find among Obama’s supporters. Bob Herbert of the New York Times, for example, smugly asserts that the Obama campaign appeals “to a new generation of voters—younger, smarter, more diverse, more open-minded.”
Meanwhile, the press has made McCain and Palin out to be stoking a “lynch-mob mentality” in their supporters, in the words of left-wing smear artist Keith Olbermann of MSNBC. For example, the press was remarkably eager to believe an unsubstantiated allegation that someone at a Palin rally yelled “Kill him!” when Barack Obama was mentioned. Olbermann dwelt on the incident for a week, ranting at one point:
on this you’re not only a fraud, Senator [McCain], but you are tacitly inciting lunatics to violence… Suspend your campaign now, until you, or somebody else, gets some control over it and it ceases to be a clear and present danger to the peace of this nation.
Frank Rich of the New York Times accused McCain and Palin of stirring up a “Weimar-like rage” in their supporters, alluding to the period of German history that saw the rise of Nazism. A secret service investigation, however, found no evidence that the phrase had been uttered. Neither Olbermann nor Rich has apologized for the smear.
As has happened so many times before, journalists’ eagerness to believe that violent racism is rampant among whites made them fall for an unsupported accusation. That the elites prove so consistently gullible to this type of claim indicates that some powerful motive is at work here. Snobbery, I think, is a good explanation: by casting the white majority as bigoted rednecks, Olbermann, Rich, and their fans reaffirm their own sense of superior open-mindedness and tolerance.
The press has made many similar gaffes in its coverage of Sarah Palin, which have tended to exaggerate her authoritarianism and ignorance. ABC News reported—the words were subsequently removed from the story—that Sarah Palin had fired a Wasilla librarian for refusing to ban books when she was mayor of the Alaska town in 1996. However, this rumor turned out to be without substance.
Olbermann comes right out and calls Palin “stupid,” but usually the press is a bit more subtle. When Palin asked for clarification of the term “Bush doctrine” in an interview, many commentators accused her of ignorance on foreign policy. However, given that there have been many versions of the Bush Doctrine, the question was a reasonable one.
These exaggerations clearly fit into the logic of diversity snobbery. The fictional narrow-mindedness, ignorance, and authoritarianism of the Republicans throws into relief the elites’ intelligent and broad-minded openness.
Barack Obama himself has artfully appealed to diversity snobbery. In his notorious “Bittergate” comments, the candidate maintained that small-town Americans “cling to” guns, religion, and immigration restrictionism out of bitterness and frustration. Similarly, Obama contrasts the Republican “politics of fear” with his own message of “change” and “hope.” The moral is clear: only bitter, frustrated, fearful losers stuck in the past oppose white dispossession and the eradication of traditional American culture. Successful, savvy people like Obama and his supporters are open to diversity.
Diversity snobbery substitutes insult for argumentation and persuades by appealing to people’s vanity rather than their reason. This elite arrogance is responsible for the distinctive nastiness and shallowness that characterizes today’s political debate. Republicans, after all, are so terrified of being smeared by diversity snobs that they refuse to address the legitimate concerns of white Americans. Consequently, their anger over affirmative action, welfare policies that “spread the wealth” from whites to minorities, and mass immigration continues to fester in silence.

Isn’t “snobbery” far too mild a term for this? Think about this Olbermann character who thinks that McCain’s campaign is “a clear and present danger to the peace of this nation”, on the basis of this one, unsubstantiated allegation about something one person said. That isn’t just snobbery, if it’s snobbery at all. It’s psychotic anger and paranoia, and it can only be explained by a profound underlying fear and hatred of ordinary white Americans.
A great many of the people you call “snobs” truly hate ordinary white Americans: hate them in just the way that, in their leftist fantasies, those ordinary people hate Mexicans or blacks or women, or whatever. The “snobs” find it inconceivable that these ordinary people exist, because they have been brainwashed. They can’t even see what these people are really like; they see only a caricature, an embodiment of all their fears and, probably, a projection of what they themselves feel deep down. This is why, in a reflective mood, they wonder what kind of pathology or mental retardation could explain their attitudes and voting patterns. Open any lefty or liberal rag and you’ll find articles musing about “what’s wrong with Kansas” and all that kind of thing. It is literally not conceivable, to them, that these people simply have a different but perhaps legitimate way of thinking about things. No. The only possibilities are that those people are irrational, stupid or just evil.
Yes, they are snobs, and yes that’s part of what you call “leukophobia”. But there’s something much more malign and disturbing in the background, which snobbery can’t explain. Remember, these are the same people who, when confronted with Reverend Wright’s insane and bloodthirsty message, reacted by saying that it was all very understandable and certainly not anything to worry about. These are the same people who always want to excuse away even the most horrific acts of violence against whites as something that we need to understand and forgive. What are they really doing when they react in this way? They are saying, perhaps without being fully aware of it, that whites are evil and should be made to suffer; that it’s okay to maim, torture and kill them, because they’re the great oppressors of everyone else in the world. That’s what many of these people really think, and what many others would go along with and accept.
So I think your analysis fails to emphasize a very horrible truth about all this. In order for something to have value to snobs, that thing must ALREADY be assigned value in the society the snobs are living in. I can’t achieve social status and prestige by letting everyone know that I like Kraft Dinner. In order for the “diversity snobs” to exist, their society has to be one in which a barely concealed psychotic hatred of whites (and white men, in particular) is considered a moral and intelligent attitude.
Today marks the demise of the United States.
The only hope is for pro-whites to migrate to certain regions in the U.S. and form governing majorities.

I have been visiting various conservative sites which allow comments to see what the reactions are to yesterday’s disaster. The common theme is how could all these voters be so gullible, ill-informed etc. But winning elections given the low IQ of a high percentage of voters, is obviously not about who is the better person to run this country. An easier solution,although impossible, would be to return to the wisdom of the founding fathers and early America when in order to vote, there were property ownership requirements, literacy tests,etc.The coalition which elected Obama is really those who didn’t care if Obama raised taxes because they aren’t going to pay them, including young whites mainly those who are in college or don’t yet have families, minorities, a surprisingly percentage of poorer whites and those who would not really be hurt as much by a worsening economy or increased taxes: single white women, high income whites. So what is logical to middle class whites and Asians is not a priority for those who voted for Obama. This is not going to change. White racial realists must become well versed in the basics of community activism as your recent article written by a writer for the American thinker. Although, blacks may have lower average IQs,there is one area they are ahead of higher IQ whites, community activism. We may have made fun of Obama’s “experience” as a community organizer but it helped him become most unqualified person elected to the US presidency in this century. In the black community , community activist or organizer,is a common “profession”. Blacks expertise at community activism has allowed a group that comprises 13% of the population, with an average IQ one standard deviation lower than the majority white population, to enjoy the following from the “smarter” white majority: an escalating transfer of wealth, outrageous “black” privilege i.e. quotas, white guilt,white fear of criticizing blacks, etc. Now they have one of their own in the white house,with a resume so thin had anyone with a similar resume ,attempted to run in prior elections ,they would’ve never been taken seriously and would not have raised any money. Ian, your plans for this website and your future website and the possibility of having the ability for those who support racial realism to inundate elected officials with faxes as Numbers USA has is really a great idea. It is because of the use of the internet by Obama campaign which was originally supported by a group of very rich Silicon Valley entrepeneurs, which allowed Obama to defeat Hillary and then McCain by massively outspending them. The internet and other cutting edge technologies must be used by white racial realist in the manner you are striving for. Another area is Ed Gorsky’s (sp) advice on community activism. I used to laugh at Jesse Jackson but look at all the influence he and his ilk have. Imagine if white racial realists could meet with the CEO of a large corporation as black race hustlers and shakedown artists regularly do. But instead demand the end of quotas with the threats of picketing , boycotts, and other consequences. Even the totally biased media couldn’t resist covering white realists picketing. We could have sit ins at universities which allow unqualified minorities to displace qualified whites and Asians. A small example was Concerned getting the local school board to use a textbook to balance the fiction written by Howard Zero (Zinn).

Thanks for bringing up my work with my county school officials. But, I am now aiming to have the Howard Zinn book banned outright in the entire state of Virginia. I am preparing the steps for a campaign plan which I will launch shortly. Given the current political climate, I figure now is the best time to point my battalions in the right direction and order them to march.
Michael Hart was correct. Ethnic partitioning is preferable to upholding the 1776 regime. I would rather have an ethnically divided continent of america than a united states of america.
I agree that “leukpphobia” isn’t going to fly. It’s sounds too much like leukemia or lycanthropy. You might want to drop phobia, too, from any new word that’s coined because that infers irrationality. Over at VNN Alex Linder is promoting a word that phonetically sounds like “loxism” (I haven’t seen it spelled out yet). It’s also too esoteric for someone like, say, Katie Couric to get her mind and lips around. Good try, but no cigar. Back to the dictionary…

Personally, I do not think that most Asians did anything in this election except vote for Obama. Even as middle class people hurt by affirmative action, they remain mostly Democrats and left wing ideologues.
This is because, like all other non whites in this country, they rabidly seek white displacement; they truly wish to see whites reduced: at least to Dhimmi status, at most to Kulak status.
I will not psychoanalyze Asians on this. Why bother? Have not we, on this site, expounded the reality of ethnic loyalty?
Joe’s ideas about community organizing are great, and the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Our task must be to emulate and even surpass the “never say die”, never give up, and never quit, never stop fighting attitude of the left.
With that attitude in mind, I must disagree with Iceman and, through him, with Michael Hart. I am not now, nor will I ever be, ready to concede one inch of American soil to our foes. I will never stand for the patrimony, bled and died for, being ripped from white people. Our ancestors would despise us as cowards and slaves for such a concession.
I suppose that snobbery is as good an explanation of the insanity of an Olberman as any. Except that, as Jay-Z so ably analyzed, it falls so short. I am afraid that I must agree with pretty much all of what Jay–Z wrote.
Some deeper dementia motivates whites who hate their own people. Snobbery is only a symptom of their neurotic, diseased mental state. These are people who seem to have no inner defenses against the false “White Guilt” foisted upon them by family, educators, and respectable society, literally from these people’s births until now.
They lack the hatred of this false guilt instilled in me by my father. A dirt poor white kid in SW Philly’s rural “Clearview” neighborhood, in the depression years, he and his family had always been exposed to blacks. They always lived cheek by jaw near them, been exposed them. Utterly outnumbered in school by them, he received their torment (as well as their mercy).The harsh realities of black capacity and behavior were never lost on my father’s or mother’s working class, hard scrabble, proud white families.
Obviously, not all lower class whites fit this mold. (Look at Chris Mathews; his case probably is rooted in the liberalism pushed by Roman Catholic bishops.)
One is reminded of Whitaker Chambers’s words. He wrote something like “only an intellectual will believe in leftism, a common man would never be such a fool”.
Joe Hamilton’s suggestion on reverting to the founding fathers requirement that in order to vote there needs to be “property ownership requirements, literacy tests,etc”, is not a new one, however is outrageously naive. Similar suggestions were made throughout colonial Africa, with cries of indignation from the mighty USA. The only option, the pundits said, was “one man one vote”. It is surprising how you hypocritical Americans dance to a new tune as soon as your “system” of democracy is threatened by demographics. You will not find much sympathy in the world as your nation starts to implode.

Nigel, I have never heard of Obama saying he would criminalize white parents who refuse miscegenation. Can you cite that? IF that is the case then “its on”. As many conservative commentators have stated openly, Sara Palin is grotesquely stupid and mind-numbingly ignorant.

Every time she spoke, Obama gained in gravitas - the contrast was simply overwhelming, and it cost McCain dearly.

In looking for the reasons why White people might have voted for Obama, sites like this are grossly underestimating the distaste with status quo represented in John McCain. But not in the way you think. I don’t know who said it, but what I’m quoting is apt. “The Democrats want to drive the country off the cliff at eight hundred miles an hour; the Republicans want to drive the speed limit.”
A lot of people who didn’t like Obama couldn’t bring themselves to vote for McCain. They were sick and tired of voting for the “lesser of two evils.” Others voted for Obama thinking “worse is better.” Think of the frog in the pot analogy. Is it better for the pot to heat up gradually or is it better to make things so hot and miserable, he’ll have to jump out and save his stupid hide?
Anti-White initiatives have been executed for the past forty years by Whites themselves. Is it really better to have a black face in the Oval Office than a race traitor like John McCain? I don’t think so.
